Inspired Reading

I love getting lost in a book. Cool to think about how you  can be trapped in a story! Can't stop, won't stop reading to figure out what happens to your favorite characters, or how the plot twists and shouts.

The book I have been diving into lately is called 'Believe it, Become it' by Dr.  Paula Fellingham. (She received her PhD from BYU) She has written several books on parenting, and being the best you. It is inspiring, and helps me remember the perspective I want to have in life!

Another book that has helped me become who I am and is inspiring is The Book of Mormon. (Didn't see that coming, did you?! ;)  My ward gave a challenge to read the Book of Mormon this semester. This has kept me reading and pondering daily. I love how God speaks to us as we go with questions. I have LOTS of questions, and I have been pondering lately the importance of asking the right question. It is easy to just want a bunch of answers, but where would the growth be in that?! I picture wanting to build my muscles, but not ever lifting any weights or going to the gym = no growth. My spiritual body needs just as much exercise! So I pray for comfort and open mindedness, but then get up and start "exercising".

I have made this, exercising my body and spirit, the theme for this year. Two scriptures that inspired this. 2 Nephi 2:16,

"Wherefore, the Lord God gave unto man that he should act for himself. Wherefore, man could not act for himself save it should be that he was enticed by the one or the other."

Agency is one of my favorite gospel principles, we have choice! We choose how to treat others, and how we react to others.

The other scripture is found in Helaman 14:30,

"And now remember, rememeber, my brethren, that whosoever perisheth, perisheth unto himself; and whosoever doeth iniquity, doeth it unto himself; for behold, ye are free; ye are permitted to act for yourselves; for behold, God hath given unto you a knowledge and he hath made you free."

God has given us knowledge and as we choose to discover, educate, and learn more of this knowledge, and as we are obedient to this knowledge we will feel free as God has promised.

I am so grateful for the Book of Mormon! I am grateful for guidance and direction in my life from acting and listening to my Heavenly Father.

Go Do Good!

Look up --> Alma 12:31 for a great example of acting and choices!

Porn Kills LOVE

"PORN KILLS LOVE"

I was lucky to attend a presentation on the movement of the anti-pornography campaign,

If you have not heard of this movement, you must make yourself aware!

This is a great cause and something that effects us all. Pornography use to be something that nobody talked about, so people would be ashamed and scared to get help. Also because of this loved ones did not know how to deal with it either. This lead to ignoring the problem instead of solving it. This is actually worse, because how are you supposed to prepare for battle when you do not know what you are fighting against.

The question is not IF you see porn, but WHEN.

Bold statement? Unfortunately it is true. Educate yourself to learn all the facts. Start now to learn what you can do to eliminate this drug. Fight the New Drug explains how pornography affects your brain, relationships (heart), and society.

Here is a sneak peek of the truth about pornography.

This is one of the great blessings of media.

Let me know what you think!

Craig's List!

"Moving to London? In three weeks? AHH!"

I know crazy, right? This just recently happened to my sister and her family. They have a little girl and one on the way. So not only are they moving across the world, but welcoming a baby into the world at the end of March. Talk about a BIG to do list.

Craig's list to the rescue!! They have sold ALL they needed to on Craig's List. Can you believe that? They are living proof of the goodness of media. Here is a small list of the not so small items they sold a kitchen table, book shelves, a bed mattress, a bed frame, oh and a car!

The fact that they can just post all those major items and be able to sell them within days is pretty amazing. At a decent price too. Thank goodness we have media to help us out.

The reoccurring question, "How did people do it before? What did people do before?"
 The world will never understand!

Insta-CONNECTED

To say I spend too much time on Instagram is an understatement. It is so easy and addicting to just

                                                                      keep scrolling,

                                                                      and scrolling,

                                                                      and scrolling,

                                                                    and scrolling,

picture after picture and even videos! It is a simple, yet a satisfying app where you can get enough details about what your friend or family member near or far is occupying their time with.

I love that it keeps you connected with certain businesses and companies. You can find great steals of deals from the information they post.  I mean if you like a picture and repost it you could win trips around the world.  All depending on how generous the company is feeling. ( I have yet to win something) Feeling:LUCKY!

I love following friends from around the world, it is my little personalized world news update.  I have friends in India right now and it is inspiring to see the change they are making to others lives. They work with people who are  affected with leprosy. Did you know this disease is still affecting millions of people. Feeling: INSPIRED!

I also get to follow my siblings and their kids. I have three older sisters. Oldest lives in Richmond, VA. Second in Chicago, IL,  and third in San Francisco, CA  soon to be London, England. SO yes they all live way too far to stop by after school and give their kids a little squeeze. Instagram helps me see how adorable they continue to be and it is fun to watch their personalities grow. Brings a smile to my face. Feeling: HAPPY!

So many emotions with just a couple swipes(scrolls) of photos. So many ways to feel.

Food for thought(#FFT): How has social media changed the way we express the way we feel? Do you think it has changed over the years?

What are you scrolling on Instagram? What connections do you have?

Really, What is Media?

Media derives from the Latin word, medium, meaning "middle" or "in between"

On dictionary.com it says,
(usually used with a plural verbthe means of communication, asradio and television, newspapers, and magazines, that reach orinfluence people widely:

It is scary how much this entails. As long as there is a sender and a receiver you have MEDIA.
Open your eyes are opening as you realize it is ALL around us.

What is your favorite source of media? What do you use most often and why?

One of my favorites is video chatting. My family live  all around the country so it is always fun to "see" them & catch up.

Here is my niece being adorable.

What is Media?

I am starting this blog for one of my classes at Brigham Young University. The class is Media, Family, and Human Development.  I was expecting this class to be all about the negative effects media has on the family, and ways to combat this war we are in.  I, like most people, think of media as negative. I believe that most of us would not admit the amounts of TV,  tablets, iPads, & all other technology devices we allow kids to use, or we ourselves use. We associate it with being LAZY, right?

I was happily surprised though when the professor asked everyone to say their favorite TV show. What? Are we openly admitting that some of us watch TV. I still thought I don't, but I'll say my favorite movie because occasionally I do that.

My teacher started and said one of her favorite shows was Gilmore Girls. I was shocked! I thought one who studied & researched media for 8+ years would say the History or Discovery channel. Why waste your time on that show or so I thought...

My goal with this blog is to open up everyone's eyes on the importance of media and how we should be open to admit we are heavily saturated in it. We need to find out how to use it for good. There is good in all things, find it and do something with it.

                                                              Go Do Good.
